Welcome Back Flows
Every return is a win. Never create guilt — guilt makes people quit permanently.
Your shoulders could use some love. 3 minutes?
— serves the next nudge like nothing happened —
Design: Don't acknowledge the gap at all. The Anti-Metric didn't go down — it just didn't go up. No judgment in the data.
Good to see you.
Let's pick up with wall angels — an easy one to get back in the groove.
Every time you come back, your body remembers faster than you'd think. Muscle memory isn't a metaphor — it's stored in your cell nuclei and reactivates within days.
Gundersen, 2016 — myonuclei retention in skeletal muscle
Design: Warm, no gap length mentioned. Slightly easier exercise for day 1 back. One insight about why returning matters. Never shows "It's been 12 days."
Welcome home.
Your body kept what you built. Want to pick up where you were, or start fresh?
Days you've moved
47
Still here. Still yours.
Design: "Welcome home" not "Welcome back." User chooses: continuity or clean slate. Anti-Metric prominently displayed — it didn't reset. Gap length NEVER shown. Every return celebrated, never penalized.
How Others Handle This
Reframe (our model): "Welcome back! Picking up where you left off." Zero mention of gap, no streak drama. Treats every return as a win.
Noom: "Let's reset your program." Acknowledges gap but down-levels your color after inactivity. Feels like punishment.
Duolingo: "You've lost your streak!" The cautionary tale. Devastating for some users. Exactly what we don't do.
V2 RETURN FLOW DECISIONS
Q15: Three tiers: short (ignore it), medium (warm welcome), long (offer restart). Gap length NEVER displayed.
Q1: Apple-style streaks — available in stats if you look, never guilt-tripping. Return flows don't mention streaks.
Q26: Anti-Metric is the anchor. "47 — still here, still yours." Psychologically different from a reset streak.
Research: "What-the-hell effect" (Polivy & Herman) — guilt after breaking a pattern causes total abandonment. Our design deliberately avoids triggering this.
